Damn, I love when Country slaps this hard – yeah I said it – when they put space between the notes and appropriate pauses between the phrasing, making every moment instantly funky. Your head will nod back and forth, eyes closed, as you slap the top of your thigh to this driving beat, which, while a funky groove, is even more so a rock song, building and building to a soaring hook; “I'ma need some whiskey glasses, 'cause I don't wanna see the truth, she's probably making out on the couch right now, with someone new.” Wallen’s world is upside down right now, though, the song has such an attractive sound, we feel for this saddened narrator, yet we are rooting for him to take a few more shots and stand up for himself. The music expressed here is more hopeful than his laments are, and all we want to do is have fun and flirt with some girls, now that we are free and on the market, shutting out the jealous thoughts that don’t matter anymore; “If I'ma be single, I'ma need a double shot of that heartbreak proof, and see the world through whiskey glasses.” Wallen is not totally out of the woods yet though, as this clever wordplay shows; “Last call, I swear this will be my last call, I ain't drunk dialing no more at 3am, Mr. Bartender hit me again.” The bartender say last call, but the narrator’s interior monologue expresses his new found conviction – he won’t call he anymore. He’s been the weak one in the relationship, willing to settle for less, when he deserves more. The guitar noise on this song is unbelievably well crafter, and the harmonies of the hooks are pitch perfect. The song has great anthem moments, and is pretty relatable for anyone who has suffered the second guessing, the back and forth, the heart break. Wallen may talk big, but we can hear he still hasn’t made up his mind, and a sobering thought is that time and time again in the song, we can tell he is using Whiskey to mask problems that he needs to address with a clear mind sometime soon.
