Inspired by disses

Taylor Swift has always been familiar with drama in music and love areas which inspired her in making new singles or even the whole albums about it. The album Reputation is her response to the disses by Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian West, and a famous singer Katy Perry. When it comes to Kanye West and his wife, all of the drama began back in 2009 when Kanye insulted Taylor publicly. Kanye made a scene at the VMAs when he rushed the stage and told Taylor Swift: “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.” That made the whole world take Taylor's side in this drama and turn against Kanye. It looked so wrong, rude and disrespectful! Taylor was only 19 years old back then and he totally ruined her special moment. He apologized the same year. But was it sincere? In 2010, his apology inspired her to make a song "Innocent" after which Kanye kept apologizing. But, suddenly, in 2013 Kanye said he doesn't feel sorry for what he did back in 2009 and regrets his apology. Two years later, they finally found peace and became friends. It didn't take Kanye long to cause new drama with the release of his song "Famous" in which he, in front of the whole world, insulted Taylor with lines:
"For all my Southside niggas that know me best
I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex
Why? I made that bitch famous (Goddamn)
I made that bitch famous"
in which he claimed to be the one who made Taylor Swift famous because, after the scene in 2009, her popularity increased drastically. He took the role of the victim here and Kim and him released the video of Taylor agreeing to these lyrics but in the video is shown that she heard only the lines:
"For all my Southside niggas that know me best
I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex"
not the two lines after these where he took the credits for her popularity and success. Taylor released a statement where she said she wasn't aware of the lyric "I made that bitch famous" and that she's totally not okay with that. She also added Kanye wanting her to promote the single on her Twitter feed which she, of course, refused to do. Four days after Kanye's song was released, Taylor won an award for her album 1989 after what she said: "There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success, or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world." and we can all see who is she referring this to. On November 10th, 2017 Taylor released a new album called Reputation and she gave us much to talk about!

Old Taylor is dead

All of the drama made Taylor Swift change. She got a nickname 'snake' and she was accused of playing the victim in the whole story with Kanye West. She accepted her nickname and made it her advantage of releasing a song "Look What You Made Me Do" with the main symbol of snake in the whole music video. This song represents her reborn, going from a naive fool to a smarter and stronger person. Before the release of the song, she deleted all of her photos on Instagram and published three videos of snake's tail, body and head. She's the true example of how you can make insults go in your favor. Taylor has never been someone who is afraid to directly address people in her songs so this song begins with:
"I don't like your little games
Don't like your tilted stage"
referring to Kanye West who had tilted stage on his tour but she might also be referring to Katy Perry who had tilted stage on one of her performances. The drama with Katy Perry began back in 2013 where one of Taylor's dancers left her on tour to join Katy on her tour but that feud seemed to be over because Katy sent a letter to Taylor with an olive branch which represents peace. Taylor posted the photo of the letter on her Instagram story and fans were happy that drama is finally over. The following lyrics:
"The role you made me play
Of the fool, no, I don't like you
I don't like your perfect crime"
made people think differently about the videos which Kim Kardashian West posted on her Snapchat with Taylor's approval for the Kanye's song. Now it seems like it was all planned and the recorded phone call between Kanye and Taylor wasn't recorded for no reason. It seems like Kanye really did make Taylor play the role of the fool in this drama. 'The perfect crime' means the drama Kanye used in his favor, making himself the victim. Lines:
"How you laugh when you lie
You said the gun was mine
Isn't cool, no, I don't like you (Oh)"
are related to Katy Perry saying Taylor started the feud between them and Kanye saying the controversial lyrics were Taylor's idea. They basically said the gun was hers while she didn't start any of that.
"But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time
I've got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!"
Taylor seems to be rising from the dead all the time, after every drama that happens, she gets back stronger but this time:
" "I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now
"Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead!" (Oh)"
she isn't coming back the same, she will never be the old Taylor.

The love that lasts forever

The third song on Taylor's album Reputation is "End Game" - a song about love that lasts forever, Taylor's wish to be her lover's end game and the first string. This song was done in collaboration with Ed Sheeran with who she did a track "Everything Has Changed" but it's her first collaboration with Future. Line: "Ooh, you and me, we got big reputations, ah" suggest us the meaning of her wannabe-forever-lover is probably someone famous like her. In the time when this song was released, she was with Joe Alwyn, the famous English actor.
"And you heard about me, ooh
I got some big enemies (Yeah)
Big reputation, big reputation
Ooh, you and me would be a big conversation, ah (Git, git)
And I heard about you, ooh (Yeah)
You like the bad ones, too"
Taylor seems to be hoping the drama around her won't bother her boyfriend and make him leave, since he likes 'the bad ones', too. They would be 'a big conversation' because the famous actor dating a famous singer wouldn't be something people would ignore.

Are you ready for it?

Taylor's song "...Ready For It?" is a mix of Taylor's dark side and the side of her which wants to be loved. The songs starts with the line: "Knew he was a killer first time that I saw him" because Taylor often includes the way she met her boyfriend(s) in her songs. Her boyfriend Joe Alwyn was starring in war drama playing the role of the soldier so that's why she referred him as 'a killer'.
"Some boys are tryin' too hard, he don't try at all though
Younger than my exes, but he act like such a man, so
I see nothing better, I keep him forever
Like a vendetta-ta"
We all know her most recent exes were DJ Calvin Harris and actor Tom Hiddleston who were 32 and 35 when they were dating and her boyfriend Joe Alwyn is over a year younger than her. Another reason to think these lines are about him is that their ages of birth ('89 and '91) were displayed at the wall in the beginning of the music video for "…Ready For It?".
Taylor Swift is an artist who makes incredibly catchy songs which get into your head so fast that you don't even realize it. Her talent is huge and amazing, her voice is stunning and the way she uses all of the drama she gets into to make music will always be something fascinating to me!
