Rapper Mick Jenkins from Chicago has released his 3rd album The Circus on January 10th, 2020 under the labels Free Nation and Cinematic Music Group. He has a music background of Neo-Soul from his mother and contemporary black gospel music from his father. His hip-hop career started in 2012 where he released 4 mixtapes, 4 EPs and 2 studio albums with The Circus being his 3rd one. Mick had the chance to collaborate with Chance The Rapper, Joey Bada$$, Denzel Curry, Vic Mensa, Kaytranada, and others, and he toured with Method Man, Redman, B-Real, and Berner. The Circus contains only one feature from EARTHGANG from Dreamville and the album is 20 minutes long.

Carefree

The Circus starts with the song "Same Ol" and Mick delivers good wordplay and his flow fits well with the instrumental while on the song "Carefree", we get a nice vibe from the instrumental. Mick raps on this song about being free from useless distractions and addiction. "The Light" features EARTHGANG and the song has a great relaxing vibe, and on the first verse, Johnny Venus way of rapping reminds me of a mix of Andre 3000 and Devin The Dude. In the short song "Flaunt", Mick Jenkins raps with a hard, raspy voice while in the song "The Fit" he plays well around with his voice on a dark instrumental. "I'm Convinced" is where Mick Jenkins shows off his rapping skills as he rapped his heart out on this song and he went all in lyrically with a nice flow. The album finishes with the song "Different Scales" where Mick does a 2 verses rap with no hook on this sweet instrumental.
