Peer Pressure Helped Me See The Strength In Pink Floyd’s The Wall
There’re very few scenarios where I think peer pressure is warranted: When your friend requires an extra push of confidence because they’re too afraid to take a chance on someone they like & convincing the group to vote for your pizza toppings ‘cause Tom can’t pick toppings for shit are two notable examples, but it gets incredibly tricky when it comes to music, as you can find yourself listening to a band’s catalogue – or even an entire genre of music – just because everyone else is doing it, the desire to fit in literally pressuring you into liking music that may or may not have even been that good to begin with – For the longest time, I thought this was the case with Pink Floyd’s The Wall, resisting the constant praise it received from nearly everyone in my school, but after years of holding out I finally saw the light & boy did I feel stupid for bad-mouthing what’s easily one of the most solid records of the Classic Rock era.
