Diving Into Metallica’s The Black Album For The First Time In Nearly Twenty Years
Metal ‘gods’ Metallica have been a staple in the Thrash Metal scene for longer than most bands could even hope to exist, consistently churning out material from the heyday of mainstream Metal acceptance until way past their prime, working hard enough to make a triumphant return in the late-noughties right when it seemed they had nowhere else to go. If you’re even remotely interested in Metal – especially if you’re a hesher who got to grow up with them in the eighties & nineties – they’re one of the rare examples of a band that’s both highly respected & dogged like trash from all ends of the spectrum, persisting as an enigma that cannot be defined; Even so, it’s hard to say their material has necessarily aged well, with today’s Metal progeny improving upon their formula so incredibly well that Metallica – also known as The Black Album – feels incredibly weak in comparison.
