Teyana Taylor Earns Her Place As A Modern R&B And Soul Princess

Teyana Taylor was born in Harlem, New York on the 10th of December, 1990. She was raised by her mother as an only child. She was very confident as a child and her star quality was undeniable. At 15 she choreographed Beyonce’s Ring the Alarm music Video. In 2007 she signed a record deal to American Imprint and to American producer, Pharell Williams’ StarTrek Entertainment Imprint. Her appearance on MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 launched her to the limelight. Afterwards she released her debut single “Google Me” in 2008, it reached number 90 on the US Billboards, hot R&B/Hip Hop songs. Teyana showed she was a triple threat by singing, dancing and rapping on the record and music video. Proving to be a jack of all trades, she pursued an acting career in 2010. She was also able to cultivate a relationship with Kanye West in the same year, this relationship has proven to be mutually beneficial over the years. She released her debut album VII in 2014, through G.O.O.D Music and The Island Def Jam Music Group. It debuted at number 19 on Billboards 200 and sold over 16,000 copies in the first week. Taylor experimented with 90s R&B and a lot of her tracks had a major Hip hop influence. The album received favourable reviews from music critics and had guest appearances from Pusha T, Yo Gotti, Fabolous and Chris Brown. In December 2015, Taylor and her then boyfriend, now husband Iman Shumpert welcomed their daughter. Her bundle of joy brought her blessings not only in her household but she also brought new life to her career. In August 2016, at the MTV Music Video Awards, Kanye released a world premiere of his music Video for his single “FADE”, this featured Taylor dancing in a sexy crop top and thong, her husband and daughter also appeared on the video. This took her career to a whole new level, she became a sex symbol once the world got to see her smoking hot body, becoming a role model for many women wanting to snap back after having a baby. On the 23rd of June 2018, Taylor released her second studio album K.T.S.E, an initialism for Keep That Same Energy. The 4 year break between albums proved to be beneficial for her, she got the opportunity to truly mature as an artist. Her soulful voice captivated listeners on tracks like “Gonna Love Me”. Teyana finally got a chance to show how great of a singer she truly is. Though it has taken a while for her to get the true recognition she deserves, the wait has been worth it. She talked about the disappointment she faced and what she has been through in the music industry on her track “Rose in Harlem”. She sings “been through more than a lil' bit…..When you really hold it down, Niggas ain't even really down for ya”. Though she has been to many places and seen many things she always credits her neighbourhood Harlem on her music.

It is the final of five albums released over consecutive weeks, produced by West in their entirety as a part of the "Wyoming Sessions", following the release of Pusha T's Daytona, West's Ye and Kids See Ghosts with Kid Cudi, and Nas' Nasir.
