Pistol Annies Have Had Enough Of Your Guff On Interstate Gospel

Alright, people…It’s the same ol’ story reviewers like myself have been saying for more than a handful of years now: Country music as a whole made some major headway in the last decade as Country Pop started integrate itself further & further into the mainstream music realm, ingratiating itself with today’s listeners through increasingly-electronic arrangements with a summer party vibe tacked-on, but this newfound relevance came at a supreme cost to the heart & soul of Country music itself; Long gone are the day of self-proclaimed trailer trash like Gretchen Wilson topping the charts & more refined acts like Garth Brooks or George Strait can barely catch a line next to the soft-edged crooning of groups like Old Dominion or Florida Georgia Line – Thankfully, Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe & Angaleena Presley decided to take it upon themselves to do something about this melodic stagnation the industry’s been faced with, forming Pistol Annies was back in 2011 but really only hitting their stride last year in 2018 with their magnificent album Interstate Gospel, a loving homage to all things Honky Tonk, Blues, Redneck & backwoods-y about Country music that doesn’t hold back on the supreme feminine attitudes & certainly doesn’t skimp on the mind-blowing instrumentation. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t given it a chance myself, but this overwhelmingly anachronistic album is easily one of the most spectacular representations of what you can accomplish in Country music I’ve ever heard & I’ll take that with me all the way to the grave, possibly even beyond if I can set up a nice temp job down in hell.
