New album Telling All My Secrets is electric, boozy, and a departure from Mitchell Tenpenny’s previous record.
On the 2015 album Black Crow, Mitchell Tenpenny already showed lots of signs that he was a Pop artist, yet something about those songs and their more conventional instrumentation grounded it in its actual genre. The new Telling All My Secrets will divide Country fans, yet perhaps it won’t divide Tenpenny fans all that much – they must have sensed a modern, club friendly approach was in the cards. I am personally not much of a fan for Country Pop, yet there is something intriguing about more-than-just-a-few songs on this surprisingly decent album – be them love ballads or drinking anthems. On the other hand, there are some cheesy songs to temper here, which might make you crave something more authentic like the vibe of his previous record.
