I’m sure the name Lizzo is starting to become common knowledge at the time of me writing this. She’s practically blown up due to what I would best describe as “perfect timing.” Everything just seemed to work in her favor around the same time. But for those who don’t know, Lizzo has actually been in the game for years previously releasing two albums Lizzobangers and Big Grrrl Small World both to critical acclaim. Her most recent release, the very well-received Cuz I Love You is actually her third full-length record and her second major-label release after her Coconut Oil EP. I remember the first time I came across Lizzo was a few years back on a short-lived MTV program called Wonderland which created a unique environment for artists to come together and perform some of their new stuff. This is way past the point of MTV actually caring about music, since they stopped actually showing videos years before it, but it was cool to see that they were trying. Admittedly, I was watching for two of my favorite artists JoJo and Hayley Kiyoko, and Lizzo didn’t appear as a performer, she was actually one of the hosts of the show. I wasn’t aware that she was an artist at the time. There was one time when I saw her freestyling with an artist, but I didn’t think anything of it. I just thought she was having a bit of fun. Well, little did I know that this Lizzo girl was soon to become a household name, and honestly, a top contender for the next Grammy ceremony.
