The year was 2014; I can't remember the exact month it was, I was about to embark on a trip back to school, which was approximately an eight hours drive. Unfortunately, I woke up pretty late that day, stormed in and out of the bathroom, dressed up and rushed out so as to catch up with my bus as I had already booked a bus ticket few days earlier. Finally got to the park only to be told that the bus had left almost an hour ago. I was so devastated, I didn’t t know what to do, I just stood transfixed to the ground for a couple of minutes, speechless. I asked for a refund but the manager told me that they don't do that and he showed me where it was written just at the back of the ticket I was holding. He must have noticed how sad I was at the realization of the fact that I won't be able to make the trip again, I was even more sad because the next day was the deadline for a school project assigned to me. I was brought out of my sad-subconscious state by the voice of the manager when I heard him talking to someone on the phone. For a moment, I thought it was the driver he was calling, maybe he could just tell him to wait while I catch up with them but I was wrong. He dropped the call and looked at me with his face full of smiles, told me about someone he knows that wants to make a trip to the city I was traveling to. I let go of a very deep breath I didn’t even know I was holding inside. Few minutes afterwards, the said person came and alas it was a fellow student of mine who was also in my department but we didn’t really talk at that time. She was also surprised to see me but did better in covering up her surprise than I did. We embarked on our long trip together and it started off awkward, as we didn't say a word to each other at first after we had exchanged greetings. We had not gone far when she connected her mobile phone to her car stereo through Bluetooth and then comes Ed Sheeran's voice playing out of the stereo speakers, the first song she played was "Thinking Out Loud". A song that had been making waves in this part of the world at that time but that was the first time the song really hit me, I paid attention to the lyrics, the beat, and then Ed Sheeran's voice, it was heavenly. All through this trip, all we listened to was the album which I later found out was titled X, pronounced Multiply. The next day after I got to school, I immediately went to get the album and it became my favourite album at that time. All the songs in this album are exceptionally great and a perfect example of the niche which the artiste had created for himself over the years, set between love and heartbreak.
