I remember it like it was yesterday. It was 2010 and early June, so my 13th birthday must have just passed. I was just on my phone, surfing the internet. Even back then, Drake was the man. His debut album Thank Me Later was due for a June 15th release but I saw something online that made me realise it had actually leaked online, an occurrence that happens less and less frequently in this streaming era. Leaks are definitely unfortunate for the artist and I do not wish them upon anyone, but man, were they entertaining. I ran downstairs to the household’s main PC and searched for it on a few different Torrent sites. At the time, my music taste was just a few years into being formed. I discovered Drake probably the year prior. One of the first songs I heard was his “I’m Still Fly” remix and it was an instant favourite of mine. With Lil Wayne in jail (which was especially upsetting for the 13-year-old me), extra pressure was being put on Drake to deliver and hold the Young Money ship down, as well as all of the expectations that stemmed from 2009’s So Far Gone. All of that aside, at the time, even I understood what the album had to be. Could it have ever delivered?
