Showing Love To The Most Underappreciated Moment In Drake’s Discography
In November of 2014, DeMar DeRozan was speaking to Ernie Johnson, Chris Webber and Greg Anthony on NBA TV when he let a music-related bombshell drop. “I talked to him the other night, actually he said he wanted to give me his mixtape that come out in January.” He was of course talking about the Raptors’ Global Ambassador Drake, who at the time was working on If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. Luckily for DeMar, the slip went by relatively unnoticed by today’s frantic social media standards and when IYRTITL dropped on the 6-year anniversary of So Far Gone, it was still a pleasant surprise to wake up to for most. The project was put out with the intentions of being just a bridge from the Nothing Was The Same era of Drake’s career to his next one, VIEWS. But unbeknownst to Drake, it would become so much more than that. Cuts from it ended up getting more popular than he’d anticipated and he went out on the Jungle Tour for it. As much as he understated his intention with If You’re Reading This in his 2016 interview with Zane Lowe, the album is proving to be one of the better bodies of work in Drizzy’s growing discography and a point of reference for every Hip-Hop fan.
