Comethazine Comes Correct With Drugged Out Slappers – But Is Its Value Too Limited?
How long do kids really want to vibe per beat? I say kids because adults would probably complain about Comethazine’s tracks being woefully short – adults having grown up with certain duration standards, unable to wrap their head around the idea of 1:30 second tracks being complete songs. I’m sure the kids are cool with it – just as the punks that the forty year olds used to be would mosh explosively to super fueled hardcore tracks which on average also clocked in at 1:30. This is youthful expression – perhaps not at its finest, but expressed nonetheless – and consider the reduced attention spans of newer generations, who consume rap like this at a much faster rate, quick in and quick out, towards the next artist or track – especially under the influence of drugs, that heighten each digital sound and stretch out a 1:30 pittance of time into a longer experience. Perhaps it’s too much of a buzzkill to listen to 3 minute songs anymore – yet if that is the truth, what were old heads smoking during the heyday of long format rap like The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest. Comethazine’s album slaps undeniably, yet it is not of lasting value.
