It might be unspoken, but amongst Hip-Hop fans, there is a pretty much agreed-upon tier system for rappers. Usually, Big Sean sits in the second tier from the top, just below the likes of J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar but above rappers like Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz. It’s not necessarily that he’s not as good of a rapper as those above him – I’d put him toe to toe against anyone with him able to hold his own – but largely because of his discography. A lot of people believe that his albums haven’t been up to par and his best project is his 2012 mixtape Detroit. Being a great rapper is key but being able to craft a solid body of work, and specifically an album, is an art held in high regard in this day and age, as I believe it should be. His first three albums Finally Famous, Hall Of Fame and Dark Sky Paradise weren’t at all panned by critics, but never received the praise that some of his peers’ work did. Sean has been a victim of circumstance a little, but he has enough of a fanbase and skill level that new music from him will always be anticipated. In October of 2016, Sean came out of the shadows after silence to put out a new song called “No More Interviews” and the campaign for his fourth studio album began.
